Exclusive interview with Zoe Hennessey, a fashion stylist and personal shopper in Los Angeles, CA
1. Where do you get your inspiration?
2. What is the difference between a personal shopper and a fashion stylist? Do you do both?
Many private clients lead very busy lives and enjoy having clothing brought to them, so I also do a lot of shopping.
3. Is the creative process different styling for a commercial versus a personal client?
When it's a personal client, I still have to go out and fine what my client wants, but there is usually a bit more creative freedom.
4. Any shopping tips?

I get a lot inspiration from people I see on the street when I am out shopping, at restaurants or parties. I also get tons of ideas from Instagram, especially from other stylists and fashion bloggers.
2. What is the difference between a personal shopper and a fashion stylist? Do you do both?
Yes! Some of my clients are not celebrities, nor are they in the entertainment industry. For these personal clients, I organize their closets and put together wardrobes based on their needs. Often, I am making outfits based on their work or social life. Sometimes, I pack for vacations or work trips, or special events.
As a fashion stylist, usually a company will hire me to style a commercial or advertisement, music video, TV show, or movie. There are also celebrities that I style for the red carpet or other press events.
3. Is the creative process different styling for a commercial versus a personal client?
Yes and no. When I am hired to style a commercial, there is usually an idea of what the clothes should look like that the director or creative director has already put together. It's my job to then find clothes that come as close as possible to the company's vision.
4. Any shopping tips?
Never buy expensive, uncomfortable shoes that you can’t walk in! Ha ha! Also, the internet has become such an important resource for me. I do half my shopping in stores, the other half online. I need to see the clothes in person, but depend on online shopping for sizes, or a special item hard that I cannot find in the stores. The selection is so vast online!
